Green Apple Festival

Happy Earth Day! I wanted to let you all in on a huge project that I’ve been involved in that has all led up to this weekend, and really, up to this very day. For the last 4 months I’ve been working as the Art Director on the Green Apple Festival, billed as “America’s Largest Earth Day Celebration”. On April 20, 2008 free outdoor concerts were held in 8 cities across the U.S.–Washington DC, New York, Miami, Chicago, Denver, Dallas, Los Angeles, and San Francisco to raise awareness about environmental issues and put out the call to take immediate action on the climate crisis.

I attended the concert in DC this weekend where sadly, Mother Nature was making a statement of her own…there were torrential rains and thunderstorms, which eventually caused the National Parks Service to pull the plug early on the show. Still, even in the pouring rain enthuisiastic fans came out by the thousands, on bike and by foot, and presumably by Metro, to see the free concert on the National Mall. Sunnier weather was present in all 7 other locations, and word is they were fun, well attended shows.
